Here at Bakersfield Mitsubishi, we recognize the importance of annual car maintenance associated with the changing seasons–even if we hardly ever get any amount of snow and ice resembling a true winter storm. In order to keep your car in top shape, we’ve created a list of five easy maintenance tips to prepare for winter. Read them on the off chance you have to drive somewhere snowy and just to make sure you’re keeping up with recommended seasonal maintenance.
The battery is one of the most important things to maintain on your vehicle because it often fails without warning, especially as the temperature drops. It’s important to keep the battery connections clean, tight, and corrosion free. Also, always replace your battery before it reaches the expiration date (usually every three years).
The second tip is to check your tires. Proper tire pressure can help you avoid blowouts, as well as make your car more efficient. Why not check the tread while you’re at it?
The air filter and oil should also be changed regularly. Good air intake is important in maintaining efficiency and good mpg, and the clean oil will lubricate the engine properly, making it last longer.
Other easy things to forget are your wiper blades and windshield fluid levels. You never know when you might need them, and you don’t want to get caught without either.
Last but not least, check the brakes. On most models, you can check the hydraulic brake fluid levels as an indicator of when to take your car in. Unless you’re fairly car-savvy, it’s wise to have a professional check and change your brakes.
