You may not have known, but Mitsubishi Motors produces an L200 mid-size truck that is available in other parts of the world. Unfortunately, that hasn’t included the US. In an announcement made earlier this month, a version of the truck will now be produced for Fiat, a move that will increase production at Mitsubishi’s plant in Thailand.
Check out the 2014 model still with Mitsubishi branding.
Production is scheduled to begin early 2016 in order to produce between 150,000 and 170,000 units over the course of six years, though the two companies are still finalizing details.
“This is beneficial for both companies because Mitsubishi Motors will boost production and Fiat will strengthen its product lineup,” said Tetsuji Inoue, a spokesman for Mitsubishi.
Before production for Fiat begins, Mitsubishi will release a redesigned version of its best-selling L200, also dubbed the Triton. Production for the redesign is expected to start before the end of the year.
The Triton is a striking pickup designed “For Work, For Play, For Life.” We at Bakersfield Mitsubishi wish we could see it in action here in the States. Maybe an announcement of Mitsubishi’s plans to bring the truck to the U.S. is forthcoming. One can only hope.
