It’s that time of year again to appreciate the ones that love you most – that’s right, your pets! Since February is Responsible Pet Owners’ Month, here are a few friendly reminders regarding your furry friends.
In the famous words of Bob Barker, “remember to have your pet spayed or neutered.” The Humane Society estimates 3-4 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year – you don’t want to be part of the problem.
Next, keep up friendly relations with your vet! You want to keep routine biannual appointments to ensure your pet is in good health and can receive any necessary vaccinations. If you notice that your pet is gaining or losing a significant amount of weight, has a loss of appetite, or has a sudden change of behavior, you will want to visit your veterinarian immediately as this may indicate a more serious condition.
Lastly, when traveling with your pets, be sure to keep them contained. It is recommended that cats always travel in their crate, while dogs should be in a crash-approved kennel or harnessed seat belt – which not only keep them safe, but also decreases driver distractions. While traveling, you will also want to remember to bring a bowl/water, and for long distances, take plenty of rest stops.
From Bakersfield Mitsubishi, we wish all of our readers a safe and happy Responsible Pet Owners’ Month.
