Mitsubishi once again partnered with Record the Journey in the 2020 Rebelle Rally. The team drove the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV over 2,000 kilometers in 10 days and secured a commendable third-place finish.
In 2019, U.S. Army Veteran Rachael Ridenour led Team Record the Journey to second place. She returned this year to enter the all-women’s off-highway navigational rally raid with fellow U.S. Army Veteran Kristie Levy. They drove the Outlander PHEV in the X-Cross class to earn 1,034 points, outranking the fourth-place team by 161 points and just missing the second-place team by 39 points.
Ridenour said, “Just completing the Rebelle is an accomplishment, and doing it in an electrified vehicle was a bit of an experiment, but the Outlander PHEV proved more than up to the task. She was a reliable partner in extreme circumstances – and being able to make coffee using the 110-volt outlet in the back was a luxurious taste of civilization in the middle of the desert.”
This year was a milestone for the Rebelle Rally as it was the first year that electric vehicles were allowed in the competition. Both the X-Cross class and 4×4 one included a new Electrified Designation to honor the highest-scoring battery electric vehicle as well as the PHEV or hybrid vehicle with the most points.
